Re-think Your Space

Are you tired of your home? Or is your home just tired? A common call I receive is from people who can’t decide if they should start packing boxes or stay put and renovate. Renovation doesn’t have to be an all-encompassing revamp. Sometimes a can of paint, a new front door or a custom built-in can make you fall in love with your home again.

Let’s start with a couple of relatively simple fixes that can make a big impact.

AS EASY AS P-A-I-N-T

5 letters, big impact. Exterior paint can completely change and update your home. I have to say that I never met a red brick that I didn’t want to paint. Here are a couple of homes—see the dramatic difference!

MAKE A GREAT FIRST IMPRESSION

Another exterior quick fix is a new front door. Just look above at the before and after of the door in the image set above. First, the single, solid door, and then the larger, double doors with glass panes that we installed during renovation (you can also see the after image in detail below). The improvement is dramatic. Studies show that an updated front door is an investment with a 100% return. Take a look at some others that we’ve done.

Now let’s get inside and see how to rethink a space.

UNUSED SPACE = SPARKLING NOOK

Do you have dead space? A corner or closet that needs to be re-thought? We love a butler’s pantry. It’s a stylish way to hide or highlight items. It’s a great prep area or a place to set up an awesome bar. Look at the home below. This butler’s pantry started as a closet, and the one below it is a re-purposed washer/dryer nook! Just because a space is small or forgotten does not mean it won’t turn into your favorite place to visit.

A LITTLE CUSTOM GOES A LONG WAY

What about a custom built-in? They really update and elevate a home. A boring room can suddenly come alive just because of a custom built-in! Just look at these examples. An open area in a large room becomes intimate with these built-ins. Character pops in the eclectic room shown next. The custom cabinets work to tie it all together. And in the last image, custom bunks makes this forgotten basement space a new neighborhood favorite.
